It is typically black, which absorbs heat; white EPDM exists but is less common. What matters on an existing EPDM roof is the seams and the terminations at walls and penetrations, because the field of the sheet rarely fails on its own; shrinkage at the edges, open seams and ponding water at drains are the usual findings. EPDM is one of the three single-ply families that appear on Austin commercial quotes, the others being TPO and PVC, and the three are not interchangeable in repair: a TPO patch will not weld to EPDM.
